GOTHIC YULETIDE MEDIEVAL WINE WALK An Immersive Tour with Dr Matthew Green
on Friday the 6th December 2024 at 7:30 pm
Join actors, musicians, and bestselling author Dr. Matthew Green for a unique, wine-fuelled Yuletide night walk through the slaughter grounds of Smithfield, the plague pits of Charterhouse, and the long, twisting alleys of Clerkenwell. Encounter spirits who loathe Christmas, rearing from the shadows.
Experience harrowing torch-lit performances as actors and musicians leap out of the darkness. Each attendee will be warmed with a generous supply of piping-hot medieval wine.
Meet a medieval anchoress, walled into a tiny cell, gazing dolefully out of her grille at the citizens reveling in their pagan Yuletide feasts.
Mingle with Bloody Mary as she drinks red wine, eats roast chicken, and watches Protestants burn like fairy lights decorating Smithfield.
Visit a chilling, lantern-framed plague pit and hear the Vintner’s Widow recount and sing of her harrowing experience living through the Black Death.
Gaze up at St. John’s Gate in Clerkenwell as a drunken watchman yells down at you, his lantern a pinprick of light through the battlements.
Feel the terror of walking down a dark alleyway in Clerkenwell, the sound of footsteps behind you and the silhouette of something diabolical ahead.
Crouch beneath a colonnade and listen as a torch lights up the face of a London link boy recounting his haunting memoirs.
Witness Charles Dickens with his pet raven, Grip, racing through the streets in a frenzy of creative ecstasy, conjuring ideas for Scrooge, the ultimate Christmas anti-hero.
Tickets £42 including wine and a 20% donation to Guy's and St Thomas' Charity. Please click here to purchase.
